I M ART presents the exhibition to feature works of Ryan Schneider and Emily Noelle Lambert from August 27
through September 30, 2008. Through the exhibition, the two young artists, now in the spotlight in New York, is first
introduced to Korea. Ryan Schneider represents subjective experience in realistic, concrete images while Emily Noelle
Lambert depicts narratives in reality and the subconscious in the same breath. Observing their images, we may enter their
unique worlds of expression.
What motivates Ryan Schneider is his remembrance of everyday moments. For the artist, surrounding objects, figures, and
environments form his own life, leaving his everyday emotions as memories. These processes not only form his life but also
convince him of present aspects of life, motivating the artist to move the direction of his life. Schneider's pieces
created by thickly applying flamboyant colors, scraping them away, and then adding more paints, captures the attention of
viewers with its ingenious harmony of texture and color sensations. Schneider's work, particularly characterized by the
elements of intensity, fear, humor, tenacity, and novelty, completes them all in the same space, representing spiritual
freedom that the artist only has. Emily Noelle Lambert's work is influenced by her personal feelings and experiences of her
surrounding scenes. These feelings clash with each other, creating a somewhat incongruous world in her canvas. She embraces
figures, places, and situations in one canvas, whether rational or irrational, conscious or unconscious, as a perfect means
to narrate her own stories. Lambert's work is brimming with energy and emotions are represented in distinctive language,
based on her own visual experience and the subconscious. It is perhaps more interesting for appreciators to focus on the
witty composition between figures and the background and her unconscious imagination rather than concentrating on an
accurate interpretation of images.
The exhibition featuring works of Ryan Schneider and Emily Noelle Lambert provides an opportunity to experience aspects of
their lives through their pieces recalling past reminiscences. As Schneider mentioned that to depict his life in painting is
the greatest motive of all, what do our eyes depict? In the show composed of everyday moments, you are expected to have an
invaluable time to envisage your present and future life. |
