Before the opening of I M ART, there was a space which had a culture of French Salon around Hongik University in 2005. This space was the matrix of I M ART as a gallery as well as the motivation power. We planed a lot of opportunities to communicate and discourse with young intelligentsia and vested people beyond the prejudice of one's sex, and social position, following the culture of French Salon. And this space endeavored to share their thoughts and opinions of each other.
In this liberal atmosphere, the Space became one of the meeting places where people can discuss about philosophy, literature, and art. People could understand each other and make a new relationships and networks no matter who they are, or how old they are. Although the space was not very big, it planed many nice exhibitions for passionate people, from university students to veteran artists, and held seminars with specific topics to lead a sound cultural climate of discussion as well. Also it settled down to appreciate movies and films. In 2005 it participated in the Festival centering around Hongik university, which made us take a little step toward the space of cultural communication, and it attracted public attention in each exhibition, with creative opening party as well. This space keeps going as IM ART to share much more values.
I M ART is a private gallery introducing plane artworks from paintings to photography. It was opened to vitalize future-oriented, and advanced art with domestic and foreign contemporary art. We are going to present new alternate plans consistently with various movements.
I M ART plans to find young artists, introduce newly noticeable artists, and attempt to analyze various artists' perspectives and inclinations. On top of providing artists opportunities to continue their work, we hope to activate an open forum on contemporary art issues by observing the prospects and tasks of art in the present day. Also, by inviting artists in relations to themes that dominate today's art to show their works to public, we will contribute to productive debate, and by doing that, we hope to help understand modern art by studying where the art of present day lies.
By concentrating on international activities and on making opportunities for Korean artists to exhibit overseas, we will introduce Korean artists to various international art journals and galleries. Based on mutual trust networks, we will work to help Korean artists to advance on a global scale. Also, by participating in overseas art fairs, we will publicize Korean art abroad and attract exhibitions which will allow observations of the international art trends.
Along with such exhibitions, finding of artists, participation in overseas art fairs, I M ART will perform educational roles through various cultural and art programs in education. We hope to achieve the role of a cultural space, and furthermore, contribute to the expansion of the art market. Various publications will be planned to help the general public to understand today's course of art.
